Promotion of Women Human Rights Defenders in Chhattisgarh
In April 2012, a new chapter unfolded for us in Chhattisgarh. Our journey, born from years of dedicated work with Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) in the Northeast, expanded its horizons. Recognizing the unsettling echoes of socio-political unrest mirroring the challenges faced in the Northeast, we realized the urgent need to extend our efforts to Chhattisgarh.
In this region, a landscape marred by violence and the erosion of rule of law, women bear the brunt of its impact, akin to our experiences in the Northeast. The growing militarization has placed WHRDs in jeopardy, exposed to risks posed by multiple fronts—Naxals, state security agencies, and entrenched societal structures.
Against this backdrop, our collaboration with Misereor spurred us into action. Our mission in Chhattisgarh has been crystal clear: to fortify good governance, nurture democracy, build robust capacities, and carve out safer spaces where WHRDs can fearlessly champion human rights.
Through our initiatives, we're not just confronting challenges; we're architects of transformation. We strive for a Chhattisgarh where the voice of every defender is amplified, where rights are safeguarded, and where democracy thrives unencumbered by fear or oppression.
Rajasthan
Promoting peace and gender justice in Bundi district of Rajasthan through women led community institutions
This project embodies our belief in the transformative force of women in safeguarding human rights. At SDS, this initiative aligns with our core vision —recognizing gender equality as pivotal in eradicating poverty and nurturing lasting peace.
Proudly partnering with the Vista Hermosa Foundation, we're spearheading a movement across 50 villages in Bundi district. Our goal? To empower women, galvanize their voices, and fortify their agency to champion their own development. Together, we're igniting a sustainable women's rights movement, amplifying the call for gender justice and harmonious coexistence.
Through this transformative journey, SDS, bolstered by the generous support of Vista Hermosa Foundation, launched a groundbreaking women's leadership program in October 2021. This program serves as a catalyst, fostering the seeds of change by nurturing leadership among women, fostering unity, and cultivating a collective spirit towards gender equity and enduring peace.
