Youth Empowerment

The third area of programmatic interventions is Youth Empowerment. Under this programme SDS strives to empower young people to avail all possible opportunities for their fullest personality development setting a platform from where they can play a constructive role on a range of social, economic and environmental issues. In the year gone by, SDS worked with UN-Habitat in a project for youth development in Delhi. This program was the first of its kind as it looked for sustainable solution to help the youth. It intended to create maximum opportunities for the urban Youth (both genders), who faced several challenges in their education due to economic and social constraints. The main goal was to successfully work towards the attainment of UN Millennium Development Goals of youth empowerment.

Another element of work with the youth is in the area of preventive and reproductive health of adolescent girls and young women. SDS has been carrying out this activity for more than 10 years, and it need and demand from the target group is ever growing. Therefore, the organization continuously engaged itself in health awareness among school children by means of special healthcamps and awareness campaigns and seminars in the schools of Delhi.
